Random February Pictures

I took a vacation day so I could have a shopping day with my friend, Heidi. She brought Berklee over to play with Claire for the afternoon. Elaine's comment when we got home "Berklee did great! Claire was pretty aggressive." Apparently Claire was stealing the wipes from Berklee all day.

Claire - 7 Months

Claire has grown up so much. She sits by herself and reaches for toys and plays with them. She loves to jabber and be a part of our conversations at the dinner table. She got her first tooth on February 19th. She uses a sippy cup...sort of. So many grown up things! But best of all...no more reflux! Yay!

Why Winter is No Fun

Winter is rough. We can't go to the park. Can't shoot hoops outside. Can't go on walks. We can't run an errand without spending 10 minutes bundling the kids up in their coats, hats, gloves, etc. But the thing I hate the most about winter...sick kids. I am convinced that kids have some sort of illness from the beginning of October through the end of February. Runny nose. Nasty cough. Ear infection. Fever. Stomach bug. It's true that kids are just a walking pool of germs.

Claire and Elliott both woke up with runny noses last Friday morning and I instantly dreaded the next few nights to come. Why is it that a kid can go all day without coughing and as soon as they lay down to go to bed the coughing attacks start? The first night Elliott woke up coughing twice and Claire woke up in between his coughing fits, which equals hardly any sleep for Mom and Dad. Thankfully Pops and Mimi saved the day the next night and Pops slept in the recliner with Claire for half the night to minimize the coughing attacks. Thanks Pops and Mimi!

Claire's Baptism

Claire was baptized on February 15th at Ankeny First United Methodist Church. She was surrounded by tons of love and we could not have asked for a better day! We had all our family back to the house for lunch and cake and Claire slept through the whole party. I guess she was worn out from all the attention.

Elliott - 34 Months

I hardly recognize Elliott. He's changed so much since Christmas. He looks like he's sprouted 3 inches and lost 3 lbs. I think it's safe to say that he's going to have his mom's stature! We are officially potty trained and Mom and Dad are definitely enjoying having only one child in diapers. I think he is going to be a people-pleaser. He loves to make sure everyone is happy with him. The conversation below is a common occurrence every time we ask him to do something.

Mom - If you aren't in bed by the time I count to 3 we are not reading books tonight. One...
Elliott - (with a sly little grin) two...three
Mom - Ok. No books.
Elliott - Awe. Mommy are you happy with me?
Mom - No, I'm not.
Elliott - (Kicking and screaming) I want you to be happy with me!
Mom - Than do as I say.
Elliott - I want to do what you say.
Mom - Then get in bed.
Elliott - (crawling into bed) Are you happy with me now?

Grandma And Grandpa Currie's Visit

Grandma and Grandpa Currie decided to make the trip to Ankeny last weekend to see the kids for a few hours and watch the basketball game with us. It was a quick day trip, but we love being closer to home which makes days like this possible!

Snowpacolypse 2015

Mother Nature did a wonderful job of welcoming the Curries back to the state of Iowa!
13 inches of SNOW

Elliott helped Dad shovel snow for 2 hours Sunday morning!

I wonder how many more snowstorms it will take before he invests in a snow blower!

My Perfect Family

I sat on the couch tonight watching Elliott and Claire play together and laugh at their dad who was playing tickle bee with them. I was suddenly overcome with a sense of pride and satisfaction. This is my husband and these are my kids. This is the Currie family. And I wouldn’t change it for the world. Yes, I will be the first to admit that having kids just 2 years apart is not easy. There were some days that I wanted to give up at the end of the day. But its nights like this that makes it all worth it!
