Claire - 6 Months

Claire has grown up so much and I feel like she is really starting to develop a personality. She is seriously the most smiley baby ever and beams from ear to ear when Mom, Dad or Elliott walks in the room. Her smile can brighten anyone's day.

Highlights:
  • Her reflux seems to be getting better. She still spits up but it's not near as much or as often.
  • She is in love with her bouncer and can bounce a way in it for 30 or 40 minutes at a time.
  • She is now rolling over in both directions and can get from one end of the room to the other in no time flat.
  • The girl loves her swaddle and it's still a must for both naps and nighttime.
  • She has found her feet and I swear would chew them off if she could.
Schedule:
  • 7:15am - awake and 6oz bottle
  • 9:00am - cereal
  • 9:30am - 2ozs and down for a nap until 11am
  • 11:30am - 6ozs
  • 1:00 - 3:00pm - nap
  • 3:30 - 6ozs
  • 4:30 - 5:00 nap
  • 5:30 - vegetables
  • 6:30 - 7-8ozs
  • 7:00 - down for the night

Lesson From A Stranger

I have yet to find an office space so I have been spending a lot of my mornings working from various coffee shops around Des Moines. The lady at Panera actually knows me by name and practically has my coffee cup ready when I walk in the door. I decided to try out a new place last week and went to La Mie. It’s one of those restaurants where you order food when you walk in and then you find a place to sit. The place was very busy and there was an older gentleman standing by my table just waiting for someone to leave. I told him that I was by myself and he was welcome to join me. He said yes and promised that he wouldn’t bother me because he could tell I was busy. I had my laptop out and papers scattered everywhere for a memo I was writing. After 5 minutes of a constant barrage of questions, it was very apparent that he was not going to let me finish my memo. I shut my laptop and started talking to him. We talked for almost 2 hours (I hope my boss isn’t reading this) and I now know his life story. He was so excited to tell me all about his career, his late wife, and his kids and how successful they are…or at least 2 of the 3. I started out slightly annoyed that I wasn’t getting any work done, but I thoroughly enjoyed the conversation. Sometimes I get so caught up in what is going on with my kids, my job, my life that I don’t take the time to listen to what is going on with other people. He thanked me profusely when he left for letting him talk my leg off. I hope to see him there again in the future.

Elliott - 33 Months

We started looking into preschools for Elliott to attend next fall. Yes, PRESCHOOL. How can it be that we are already starting to talk about school? While laying in bed last night Mark said "It seems so weird to picture him with his little backpack." I almost cried so I can't imagine what I'll do when the actual day comes. People really do mean it when they say your kids grow up in the blink of an eye. Elliott has become quite the conversationalist and we don't realize how well he can talk until we get around other kids his age. Below are some of our hilarious conversations.

While going to bed
E - How was your day, Mommy?
Me - It was good. How was yours?
E - I had a good day. But some times we have good days and some times we have bad days.
Me- You are right. What makes you have a bad day?
E - When I have to go to bed and I'm not tired.

E - I'm sorry, Mommy. I spilled my cereal.
Me - Giving him the stern look...
E - I'm sorry, Mommy. I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing and I spilled my milk.
(How do you even get mad at that?)

E - Can I watch Chuggington with my milk?
Me - Oh, I don't know honey. Not this morning.
E - Just ONE episode (holding up one finger) and then I'll eat my breakfast.
Me - Ok, fine.
E - Can I watch just one more episode?
Me - No.
E - Awe...(long pause)...can I have some oatmeal and a waffle?

Someone got new train tracks for Christmas and he LOVES them

Awe man, I can't play that one

Christmas

Christmas 2014

A couple months before Christmas we started explaining to Elliott what Christmas is. After 10 minutes of explaining Santa, elves, reindeer, the North Pole, and of course presents I realized that I hadn't even brought up Jesus. So I started explaining to him who Jesus is and that when we go to church we go to learn more about him and worship him.  I followed it up with “Christmas is when we Celebrate Jesus’ birthday.” His response, “So Jesus is sitting in the sky? Or the tree?” Ok, so he may not quite understand it yet this year…but we tried.

Christmas this year was absolutely wonderful! We spent some amazing time with family and it always reminds me of how truly blessed we are!
