Soccer....

....ugh!

Mark and I vowed that we would never expose our kids to soccer.  There's just something about spending all weekend on soccer fields in sweltering heat or pouring rain that doesn't sound appealing.  The fact that we've never played the sport and don't know the rules may also have something to do with it.

Mark took Elliott on a run at a park nearby on Tuesday and they stopped to watch some kids playing soccer.  Elliott LOVED it!  And the weather has been so nice lately that I've taken him back to the soccer fields the last two nights.  Oh, what have we gotten ourselves into!

Weekend of Kansas City Fun

Kansas City has an art fair on the Plaza every September so we decided to partake in the craziness which includes masses of people, hundreds of babies and strollers, more dogs than you count, and enough loud music to make your ears ring.

Styling for the Plaza Art Fair

Dad found Elliott a balloon....you could literally feel the joy in his heart when he got his own balloon!

First Royals Game

We spent most of our time in the "Kids Zone."
Elliott looks so old in this picture!!

Getting Elliott to look at the camera is like herding cats...

Playing outside
Wrestling Mom and Dad, but mostly Mom
Playing with Cousin Addison
He still loves to play basketball of course
Working in the yard with Dad

Fun Weekend

Abby and K'Lyn came to Kansas City for an extended weekend to do what we do best...shop!  We have such a fun time when we are together.  Somehow I only managed to grab one picture.
Aunt K'Lyn and Elliott face-timing Cousin Addison

On Sunday we took Elliott to the petting zoo.  This place is the cheapest entertainment for a Sunday afternoon at just $2/person.  Elliott could spend all day playing with the animals.

Feeding the Goats

Hugging the Goats

Elliott hasn't quite got the concept of fishing yet.  He doesn't have the patience to keep the worm in the water long enough to catch anything.  Somehow we still managed to catch two fish.

Some grub after a long morning of chasing animals

Elliott's New Sandbox

What do you get when mix Aunt Megan's creative mind/Pinterest
and Grandpa Jeff's woodworking skills....

A pretty awesome sandbox!

The side benches fold down flat to cover the sandbox when it's not in use.  That's a good thing because we have a few neighborhood kitties who would love to have it as a litter box.

Elliott will spend as much time in the sandbox as you allow him!  This is music to the ears of a mom who struggles to find ways to keep an almost 17 month old busy and his curiosity filled.

Thanks, Grandpa Jeffy!

Kansas City Sealife Aquarium

Dad had to work on Saturday so Elliott and I went to the aquarium for the first time.  Elliott's vocabulary consisted of one word the whole afternoon....WOW!

5-Year Anniversary

Mark and I became Mr. and Mrs. Currie on August 16th, 2008, almost eight years after meeting each other in September, 2000.  I was only 14 and Mark had just turned 16.  We were extremely young, but we knew pretty early on that we were meant to be together.

I surprised Mark with tickets to Chicago for our 5-year anniversary. Ok, I didn't really surprise him.  I had to tell him three weeks in advance so he could schedule a three day weekend away from work.  Yes, I said weekend. Mark's employer has recently ignored American's standard 5-day work week. Those bridges are important folks!

Although it was a quick three days, we managed to fit a lot of fun stuff in.  Even two naps!  Yup.  We spent two of our precious hours in Chicago taking naps.  Thanks to my cousin Lisa and a couple coworkers for all the really fun recommendations.  What an amazing city! And thanks to Pops and Mimi (Jon and Mary) for watching Elliott.
