Weekend of Friends

Weekend of Friends

Elliott had two playdates this weekend.  It was fun to watch him interact with other kids, but I have to admit that I enter each play date with a little fear.  He is almost off the charts in terms of growth, and I don't think he knows how strong he is.  Despite my fear, he did very well this weekend! I was surprised at how interactive he was.

Elliott and Dominic (14 months)
- Mark's coworker and his wife came over Saturday night for dinner.  Dominic is 3 weeks older than Elliott and is half the size!  He's such a sweet little boy and is a lot more shy and reserved than Elliott.

Emile (9 months) and Elliott
- Emile came over with his mom, Alexis and we all went shopping together.  I think the mom's probably enjoyed the play date more than the boys did.  Emile used to go to daycare for a few months with Elliott.

He's a Boy!

He's a Boy!

I picked up Elliott from daycare the other night and he had grass stains!  I don't know why that hit me on so many levels.
"Wow, he really is a boy."
"Now I'm going to have to start treating clothes for stains."
"Wait, what? I have a child old enough to have grass stains!"

Yes, I know....you can barely see it.  But it's there!

He is determined to climb up that thing all by himself, so we put the steps up against the wall so he couldn't easily get to them.  He showed us, "I'll just go up the slide."

He loves to get close to the camera and grab it, so we have plenty of shots like this.

Walking!  Yes, he his holding something in each hand.

13 Months

13 Months

Elliott is really starting to talk!  Just a couple weeks ago he started to say what sounds like "tickletickletickle."   I wish I knew what he was trying to say because he grins from ear to ear when he says it. It's the most adorable thing!

He's also starting to comprehend more of what we say.  He now knows what the following words mean: milk, night night, Mom and Dad, are you hungry, and feet first.   "Feet first" is what we tell him when he goes down the steps. If we tell him feet first after he's started down the steps the wrong way, he will stop, push himself back up the steps, turn around, and go down feet first. Amazing!

He is getting close to walking.  He can take quite a few steps now, but would still prefer to crawl.  He has actually started to walk and hop on his knees.  Weirdest thing ever, but I guess it's a natural progression to go from crawling to walking on your knees to walking on your feet. Right?

Not the best picture ever, but the most recent one.  He's eating an orange.

Kansas City Zoo

We went to the Zoo on Saturday and had an amazing time!  We've lived in Kansas City for 5 years and I can't believe we have never been there!  Elliott had a really good time meeting all the animals. He had such a fun time that he was passed out before we even got out of the parking lot.

Learning to Let Go.....

I sent the above picture to my twin sister, Abby and she jokingly replied "That picture pretty much confirms that it may be impossible for me to have kids."  I laughed because for those of you that know my sister, she is extremely clean and organized.   I certainly have that gene, too!  I'm sure I annoy Mark when I'm constantly nagging him to pick up his clothes on the floor or put away his razor and toothbrush.  As I look through pictures of Elliott, I realize how many I have of him making a mess.  And for some reason I'm ok with it!   I guess all the fun Mark and I have with Elliott and watching him grow has helped me learn to let go a little bit of my OCD behavior.

First Haircut

We gave Elliott his first haircut last weekend, and it was probably several months too late!  I knew it was time when someone at Whole Foods called him a she!  I can't believe how old he looks now!  Where has our baby gone?!?

Before

After

I had to add this picture because I thought it was absolutely adorable.  Elliott hates being confined to the seat in the carts so we had to improvise!

ELLIOTT'S FIRST BIRTHDAY

ONE YEAR OLD

Wow! Where has the time gone?  A year ago we added Elliott James Currie to our family and it's been an amazing ride.  It's been so much fun to watch him grow up and form his own little personality.

He is really starting to comprehend some things...like bed time! :)  We now have to "ask" Elliott if he's ready for bed by pointing to the crib and saying "Elliott, are you ready for night night?" Often times we get a whimper back, but occasionally we get a slight grin, a reach towards the crib and a response of "nigh nigh."

We dropped the bottle about 2 weeks before he turned one and we had absolutely no issues...thank goodness!  He started using a sippy cup at meal times around 9 month, but never really liked them.  He can't get enough of his sippy now!  You ask him in the morning if he wants milk and he smiles and laughs the whole way down the stairs to the kitchen.

He is quite the socialite!  I brought him to a work picnic and he stole the show.  He grins and smiles at anyone who glances his way.  Thankfully he's pretty good with letting anyone hold him because everyone wanted to pick him up and squeeze him.

We had a Mickey Mouse themed birthday party and he loved it! A lot of family and friends helped Elliott celebrate at a nearby park.  He got a bunch of toys and enough clothes get us through the summer, I think!  He sure is loved!  He didn't dig into the cake like we had expected, but I think he enjoyed it.  I'm not sure he actually got to the cake? It looked like all frosting to me! :)

Mark and I can't wait for what the next years bring!
